China is the world's largest market for electric vehicles, and BMW is ready to meet the growing demand with its new BMW i5. The i5 is an all-electric executive sedan that combines luxury, performance, and innovation in a sleek and elegant package. The BMW i5 is based on the new generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan, which is also exclusively produced and sold in China.
The BMW i5 is the latest addition to the BMW i brand, offering a range of electrified vehicles designed to be sustainable, efficient, and fun to drive. The BMW i5 joins the BMW i3, BMW i4, BMW i7, and iX models in the BMW i lineup and is expected to be a strong competitor in the premium electric sedan segment.
The BMW i5 is available in two variants: the i5 eDrive40 and the i5 M60 xDrive. The former is a rear-wheel drive model with a single electric motor that delivers 335 horsepower and an estimated range of up to 295 miles. The latter is a performance-oriented model with dual electric motors that provide all-wheel drive traction and a whopping 590 horsepower. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric sedans on the market.
Both variants of the 2024 BMW i5 are equipped with an 84.3-kWh battery pack that can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes using a DC fast-charging station. The i5 also features a new Plug & Charge function that automatically authenticates and initiates the charging session at an Electrify America station without the need for any cards or apps. The payment is processed only when the 30-minute complimentary session has been exceeded.
