Volkswagen is about to unveil its most ambitious electric vehicle yet: the ID.7. This model will be the largest and most luxurious member of the ID. family, which already includes the VW ID.3, the ID.4 crossover , the ID.Buzz van, the ID.5 SUV and the ID.6 electric sedan. The ID.7 will make its world debut on April 17 and will hit the European market this autumn.
I have been following the development of the ID.7 with great interest and excitement. I believe that this vehicle will set new standards for electric mobility in the upper middle-class segment and will challenge the dominance of traditional combustion-engine cars in this category.
The ID.7 is based on Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB), which allows for a spacious and flexible interior design, a low center of gravity, and a balanced weight distribution. The ID.7 will offer a generous wheelbase of 2,964 mm and a trunk volume of 565 liters, which can be expanded to 1,710 liters by folding down the rear seats.
The ID.7 will also feature a new generation of electric motors that are more powerful and efficient than ever before. The rear-wheel drive version will have an output of 150 kW (204 hp), while the all-wheel drive version will have an output of 220 kW (299 hp). The battery capacity will range from 58 kWh to 111 kWh, depending on the configuration, and will enable a range of up to 700 km (435 miles).
But the ID.7 is not only a long-distance cruiser; it is also a dynamic and agile performer on any road. Kai Grünitz, head of development, says: "With the ID.7, we have further exploited the potential of the MEB platform. We have also used a new, more powerful and more efficient electric motor. In addition, we have optimized the undercarriage and, with that raised driving comfort to a new level. The combination of a superb electric powertrain, a comfortable undercarriage and a long-range make the Volkswagen ID.7 the perfect electric car for long distances."
