Citroen Ami: The Perfect City Supercar for Under $10,000

Citroen Ami

If you're looking for a supercar that can zip through the city streets, fit into tight parking spaces, and run on electricity, you might be disappointed by the options available in the market. Most supercars are expensive, gas-guzzling, and impractical for urban driving. But what if there was a supercar that was affordable, eco-friendly, and fun to drive? Meet the Citroen Ami, the perfect city supercar for under $10,000.

What is the Citroen Ami?

The Citroen Ami is a two-seater electric quadricycle that was launched in France in 2020 and is now available in the UK. It is not technically a car but a light motor vehicle that can be driven by anyone over 16 years old with a moped license. It has a top speed of 28 mph and a range of 47 miles on a single charge. It can be recharged in just four hours using a standard household socket.

The Citroen Ami is designed to be a simple, fun, and cheap alternative to public transportation or other modes of urban mobility. It is aimed at young drivers who want to have their own personal space and freedom, as well as older drivers who want to reduce their environmental impact and save money on fuel and maintenance.

The Citroen Ami is also customizable, with different color packs and stickers to suit your personality and style. You can choose from six versions: Ami Blue, My Ami Pop, My Ami Vibe, My Ami Tonic, My Ami Cargo, and My Ami Buggy. Each version has its own unique features and accessories, such as phone holders, bag hooks, storage compartments, roof racks, and even a surfboard.

How much does the Citroen Ami cost?

The Citroen Ami is one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market. You can buy one outright for as low as £7,695 ($10,400), or you can opt for a monthly subscription or rental service. For example, you can lease an Ami for £99 ($134) per month with a £1,337 ($1,810) deposit for 24 months. Or you can rent an Ami for £26 ($35) per day or £17 ($23) per hour through the Free2Move car-sharing app.

The Citroen Ami also has very low running costs. It costs less than £1 ($1.35) to fully charge the battery, which means you can drive up to 47 miles for less than the price of a cup of coffee. It also has no road tax or congestion charge fees in the UK. And because it has very few moving parts, it requires minimal maintenance and servicing.

How does the Citroen Ami compare to other city cars?

The Citroen Ami is not the only small electric vehicle that aims to revolutionize urban mobility. There are other competitors in the market, such as the Renault Twizy, the Smart EQ Fortwo, and the Fiat Topolino. However, the Citroen Ami has some advantages over these rivals.

First of all, the Citroen Ami is cheaper than most of its competitors. The Renault Twizy starts from £11,695 ($15,800), the Smart EQ Fortwo starts from £17,785 ($24,000), and the Fiat Topolino starts from €6,490 ($7,300). The Citroen Ami also offers more flexibility in terms of ownership options. You can buy it outright or pay monthly or hourly, depending on your needs.

Secondly, the Citroen Ami is more spacious and comfortable than some of its competitors. The Renault Twizy has a tandem seating arrangement that limits legroom and visibility for the passenger. The Smart EQ Fortwo has only two doors and no rear seats or boot space. The Fiat Topolino has a similar design to the Citroen Ami but with less headroom and storage space. The Citroen Ami has two side-by-side seats with plenty of room for both occupants. It also has a panoramic glass roof that lets in natural light and creates a sense of openness.

Thirdly, the Citroen Ami is more practical and versatile than some of its competitors. The Renault Twizy has no windows or doors (unless you pay extra), which makes it vulnerable to weather and theft. The Smart EQ Fortwo has limited range and performance compared to other electric cars. The Fiat Topolino has no special features or accessories to enhance its functionality. The Citroen Ami has windows and doors that can be opened and closed easily. It also has various versions and accessories that cater to different needs and preferences.

Is the Citroen Ami worth buying?

The Citroen Ami is not for everyone. It is not a car that you can take on long trips or high-speed roads. It is not a car that you can load with passengers or luggage. It is not a car that you can expect to have the latest technology or safety features. It is a car that you have to accept for what it is: a simple, fun, and cheap way to get around the city.

If you are looking for a supercar that can do all those things, you will have to look elsewhere and pay a lot more. But if you are looking for a supercar that can make you smile, save you money, and reduce your carbon footprint, the Citroen Ami might be the perfect choice for you.
